Coffi Lab to Open Flagship Pontcanna Store, “Dylan’s Lab,” in Tribute to Founder’s Beloved Dog

Independent coffee spot Coffi Lab has announced plans to open its 12th coffee shop in early 2026,bringing its much-loved neighbourhood gathering spot to the leafy suburb of Pontcanna.

The new Lab will be nestled on the corner of Cathedral Road, just a short stroll from Llandaff fields, in the former Bike Shed premises.

Opening in Pontcanna holds deep personal significance to founder James Shapland. It’s the neighbourhood he calls home, and the very place the Coffi Lab dream began. The Lab is a heartfelt tribute to Dylan, his late Fox Red Labrador and best friend, who sadly passed away in 2023.

Dylan’s warmth, loyalty and joy inspired the values behind everything Coffi Lab is today.

“Pontcanna was always meant to be our first Lab,” says Shapland. “It means so much to be opening in our special home neighbourhood, near the fields where Dylan took his first and last walk. This space is a tribute to him and to everything Coffi Lab stands for.”

Designed as more than just a coffee shop, Dylan’s Lab will offer a cosy gathering spot to bring people together. It’s a place to meet, relax and savour the simple things - with four-legged companions always welcome.

The Pontcanna Lab will serve the same signature house-roasted coffee and artisan house-baked goods that Coffi Lab is known for, including their signature Fox Red roast and delicious Crwfins®.

From roasting and baking to service and design, every detail is crafted to create a warm and welcoming home away from home.

Beyond coffee, Coffi Lab continues to support their social mission, raising money and awareness for Guide Dogs for the Blind in recognition of the life-changing impacts dogs can have.

Since opening the first coffee shop in Monmouth in 2021, Coffi Lab has been recognised by The Sunday Times and the UK Fast Growth Index as one of the fastest growing businesses in the UK.

With Labs across South Wales, Monmouthshire, Bristol and beyond, Pontcanna marks a milestone for the Cardiff-born brand.

While an opening date has yet to be confirmed, Coffi Lab are excited to be opening their doors to the Pontcanna neighbourhood in early 2026.
