Starting on the 5th of April, The Plate project will be bringing a selection of lunches from around the globe to the streets of Splott.

Come along to their food trailer for the perfect 'work from home' lunch of specially selected salads, wraps and specials.

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12-3pm.

The lunches will be served from their trailer at 69B Splott Road, collection only.

THEIR MAIN AIM AND VISION IS TO HELP REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS INTEGRATE WITHIN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITY.

Not only do they encourage integration within their own community and culture
but are also keen to learn and be inspired by the cultures and traditions we
are exposed to daily by the wonderful clients at Oasis.

Oasis provide support for roughly 100-150 visitors each day from around the globe, this includes people from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, El Salvador, and Ivory Coast among many other countries.
Some have just arrived in Cardiff whereas others have been here for a few years and visit Oasis to socialise with the many friends they have made here.

During the week the centre is open to refugees and asylum seekers, they run various women-only sessions and groups, art classes, English language classes, sports sessions, daily advisory sessions, advocacy forums, relaxation sessions, and the list goes on, oh and provide free lunch every weekday and it’s always delicious!

Outside of the centre, they organise regular cultural and sports
trips around Wales from museum and art gallery visits to sport team
activities and mountain peak challenges.

To involve and engage the local and wider community with what they do and all of the amazing people we meet they run regular community events such as their weekly Home Supper Club with a dish from a different part of the world every week, which have been introduced to us by our culinarily talented clients.

Due to Covid-19 a lot of the community and client-facing events and activities have either been put on hold or we are in the process of re-planning them, but they hope to continue to involve our wider community in the very near future with regular cultural and food-related events.

Help them give refugees and asylum seekers in Cardiff the warm, Welsh welcome they deserve.

Your donation helps some of the most vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers in Cardiff to stay healthy and build a new life by allowing us to offer regular and healthy meals, access to free toiletries and sanitary products, free English classes as well as a wide range of activities, a safe space to come to make connections and friends, help with settling into safe new homes, support from the trauma of conflict, help with applying for rewarding jobs - and so much more.

£5 can pay towards a week's worth of healthy meals and refreshments for one family.

£10 can pay towards a one to one session with a trained Integration Officer.

£20 can pay towards a day of English language classes for up to 20 learners.

There are a few specific volunteer opportunities at present, such as volunteer receptionist and cafe/kitchen volunteer.

Volunteers are encouraged to join in the volunteer events to meet fellow volunteers and to attend training sessions to help be equipped for their volunteering role. Volunteers are invited to attend and participate in meetings. A monthly volunteer newsletter helps to keep the team up to date with the goings-on at Oasis Cardiff.

Volunteers are an integral part of the Oasis Cardiff team. Every member of the Oasis Cardiff team has a role to play to help keep us
running smoothly. Every member needs to be proactive and help to make a difference in the lives of people who use the services. They love it when people join the team and help us to continue to give asylum seekers and refugees a warm Welsh welcome.

Oasis Cardiff is a diverse team and joining it you get to meet new people, explore different cultures, learn and share new skills and talents. Volunteers are encouraged to share new ideas with the staff
and utilise their skills and passions and to dream big.

“I am only one, but I am one.  I cannot do everything, but I can do something.  And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” – Edward Everett Hale
