REVIEW: Weekend Away at The Coal Exchange Hotel Cardiff
We recently enjoyed a two-night Christmas weekend at The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the hotel’s incredible charm. The building is steeped in history and character, beautifully preserved yet seamlessly paired with modern elegance. It truly is a must-stay for anyone visiting Cardiff.
One of the highlights of our visit was discovering the many unique features that remain from the hotel’s former life as The Coal Exchange. They add so much personality and intrigue to the space though no spoilers from us! It’s something you really must experience for yourself.
Our group of ten stayed across a unique variety of rooms and suites, each one completely different and full of its own unique charm. The rooms were exceptionally comfortable and well thought out, featuring luxurious jacuzzi baths, cosy beds, tea and coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer, iron, dressing table, and complimentary toiletries.
The Merchant Hall is truly magnificent—an absolutely stunning setting that captures the grandeur of the building.
Throughout our stay, the reception, dining, and reservations teams were superb. Every member of staff we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely accommodating, adding so much to the overall experience.
Breakfast was included in our reservation, and we would highly recommend it. The full Welsh breakfast was delicious and beautifully prepared a perfect start to the day.
The location couldn’t be better. Just minutes from Mermaid Quay, close to Cardiff’s fantastic shopping, and within easy reach of tourist attractions, bars, restaurants, and the train station, it’s ideal for exploring everything the city has to offer.
The hotel truly caters for every type of stay. Whether you’re travelling as a family, a couple, a group of friends, or visiting for business, The Coal Exchange offers an exceptional experience. Its impressive spaces and elegant atmosphere also make it perfect for corporate meetings, private events, functions, and weddings.
Overall, our weekend was absolutely fantastic. If you’re looking for a hotel that offers something truly special an inspiring blend of rich history, elegant design, and modern comfort. The Coal Exchange Hotel is the perfect choice. We would highly, highly recommend it.
