At our centre in Llandaff North, we have students from across Cardiff’s schools. The systematic approach of MagiKats Tuition allows us to place students together at their level and work through the curriculum requirements for the year group. Many subjects are revisited at different stages and the students become increasingly confident at each area of the curriculum as the year progresses.

Groups are small and offer a ‘safe space’ in which every child is supported. There are smiles and laughing as we encourage students to reach their full potential. We know that this is difficult in big classes with multiple languages and some students are reluctant to join in or offer an answer for fear of “getting it wrong” ….. We encourage our students to answer and take part with the security that no one laughs at you, only with you, at MagiKats.

Each week students take individual work packs home to practise skills and spend a little time each evening becoming quicker and more confident in their core skills. Parents get the answer sheets so there is no last-minute panic and if students have a problem with a skill, we can clearly see this through the homework feedback and help them understand. I like to think that parents can be loving and make tea instead of having homework stress. Our personalised system prevents this mostly and I say, “Leave us to teach, you do the ironing!!”

Tuition sessions last for 40 minutes each week and there are 48 weeks of tuition available per year. We charge monthly but our prices are lower than a personal tutor and other after school clubs. All lessons are delivered by fully qualified teachers and this gives our students confidence and gives parents another person to talk with and share concerns about school!

Elizabeth Bargery teaches maths at our centre in Llandaff North. Buff, as she is known, also teaches Maths in Coleg Gwent and has trained to level 4 in maths teaching, in addition to her qualification to be a teacher.

She was previously Head of Department at Moulton College Kettering. 

On moving to Cardiff, she has become a sought after tutor of maths and joined MagiKats in 2020. She worked with students online throughout the pandemic and in spite of all assessment problems enabled all her students to gain a C grade and above.

Many students who are now working face to face with Buff gained an A grade in Numeracy in November 2021.

We are certainly fortunate to have such a gifted teacher as part of our team, and are currently enrolling all age students to work with Buff at our MagiKats Centre in Llandaff North.
